Alexander Hodge originally hails from Vancouver Canada but has resided in Australia since 2000.
Assoc Prof Hodge worked as a molecular biologist in Canada before he commenced medicine at The University of Sydney. He graduated in 2004 with honours, then completed his gastroenterology specialist training between Canberra and Melbourne. Since 2004, he has been involved in clinical and basic science research. In 2015 he completed a PhD at Monash University on the use of human amniotic epithelial cell treatment for liver fibrosis and utilizing fasting as management for fatty liver disease.
Assoc Prof Hodge was awarded the Inaugural Early Career Research Award in 2015, 2016 and 2017. His research interests have led to 17 invited talks, 2 Presidential Posters of Distinction at international conferences, features in 48 newspapers and 95 TV / radio segments internationally and throughout Australia and advisory board membership for a pharmacology company. As of 2023 he has overseen 15 Pharma-sponsored clinical trials through Monash University as the principal investigator.
Assoc Prof Hodge is an Honorary Adjunct Clinical Associate Professor of The Faculty of Medicine at Monash University and The Department of Health and Biomedical Sciences at RMIT University.
He has a current public appointment at Eastern Health and consults in Frankston (including FibroScan®). He performs endoscopic procedures at The Bays, Mulgrave Private and Chesterville Day Hospitals.
